Dry eye problem and dry skin problem are similar to each other and negatively affect the comfort of our daily life. Have you ever thought that these two may be related to each other? Research conducted at Zagreb University Hospital in Croatia answers the question. If you wish, let’s not prolong the word and let’s look at the details and surprising results of the research that follows the relationship between dry eye and dry skin.
Is There a Relationship Between Dry Eye and Dry Skin?
The research was conducted with a total of 50 participants. While 25 participants had dry eye complaints, 25 participants did not have dry eye complaints. Let’s add other points of attention in the research.
- Schein questionnaire was used to determine dry eye symptoms in participants. Thus, it was also determined how severe symptoms the patients showed.
- In the skin dryness tests, the expressions of the patients on their facial skin according to their own perceptions were evaluated, and measurements were made with a sebumeter. In this way, it was determined whether the patients’ skin was dry.
Results Obtained After Tests
- After the tests with 50 people, the results obtained were evaluated separately. According to this
- Individuals without dry eye complaints were found to have oilier skin than individuals with dry eye complaints.
- In the measurements made with the sebumeter, it was found that individuals without dry eye complaints had higher oiliness in the forehead and cheek areas.
As a Conclusion
The study shows that dry eye is independently but significantly associated with dry skin. According to the study, people with dry skin have a higher incidence of dry eye. Of course, much more research and detail is needed to explain this relationship. But we can say that the results are remarkable even in studies with 50 participants.
