Effects of Corneal Allograft Ring Therapy in Keratoconus Treatment

Various scientific studies are being conducted to improve the quality of vision in keratoconus patients and to create more effective treatments. Corneal Allograft Ring treatment is one of the results of these scientific studies. The method known as CAIRS is one of the treatment methods developed to ensure that patients achieve a better quality of vision and benefit from the blessings of technology. In this blog, we will try to better understand the effects of this treatment on keratoconus patients by talking about the scientific studies on this treatment.

The Place of Corneal Allograft Ring in Keratoconus Treatment

In a scientific study of 49 patients’ eyes, the patients were followed for 3 years.

At the end of 3 years, according to the data obtained, it was understood that there was a serious decrease in the myopia of the patients. Patients with an average of 7.5 degrees myopia decreased to 2.3 degrees myopia.

The vision level of keratoconus patients who participated in the study, which was determined as 10% before surgery, increased 4 times and reached 40%. Of course, let’s add that these values are shared as average values.

The research shows that apart from the average value, there are also patients whose vision has improved up to 90%.

During the 3-year follow-up period, it was observed that the cornea continued to form for 6 months. After 6 months, the improvement in vision and the change in shape remained constant.

All this research shows that the Corneal Allograft Ring method is one of the scientific developments that have an important place in the treatment of keratoconus. It is also reflected in scientific studies that it helps the patient to regain their vision.
